Community Spirit Foundation

Education Changes Lives.

Community Spirit Foundation works in partnership with four First Nations partner communities to support young people to realise their potential through education and lifelong learning.

Established in 2007 as the Cathy Freeman Foundation, the Community Spirit Foundation delivers a suite of programs to 1600 students in four partner communities - Woorabinda and Palm Island in Queensland, and Wurrumiyanga and Galiwin’ku in the Northern Territory.

We support young First Nations people, throughout their entire education journey and beyond, to develop the skills and confidence they need to make effective transitions towards a future of their choosing.

Our programs, which are curriculum-aligned, are delivered to students by local staff – the heart and soul of our organisation – so they are contextualised to each unique community. Our staff also act as positive and relatable role models for students and in the wider community.

We recognise the innate strength and wisdom that lies within our partner communities, and have built strong and trusting partnerships with community, and school leaders. And we work to a community development model to build the capacity of communities in a long-term and sustainable manner.

We know that education really does change lives, and we are privileged to support the young people we work with to realise their potential. But our work couldn’t take shape without our partners and supporters and we thank PMF Foundation for its continued support.
